Clear Aligner Teeth Straightening Therapy from a Family Dentist

The dentist will take X-rays and make impressions of the person’s mouth. From these, the dentist can create a treatment plan while a technician fabricates the aligners to fit properly.

Daily wearing

Another difference between clear aligners and other treatments is how long the appliance is in the mouth. Some teeth-straightening methods are permanent until the dentist removes it. But with aligners, the patient can take them out as needed. The dentist will recommend that the patient has them in for 20 to 22 hours a day. It is good to take them out while eating and to clean them.

Maintenance

Clear aligners are susceptible to wear and tear. Damage can also occur, such as rips and tears. The patient should rinse them often, especially after meals and before bedtime. Good oral hygiene, such as brushing and flossing, will prevent discoloration and the buildup of bacteria on the appliance. When not wearing the aligners, the patient should store them in a secure place.

The dentist will provide regular follow-up for people who have clear aligners. These visits will occur every two to four weeks, depending on the person’s treatment plan.   • Practicing how to smile can help the patient create a brand-new smile. The patient can think about how fulfilling the process will be. There could be challenges, but these will be easy to overcome with enough dedication.
  • Speaking exercises can help train the tongue and lips to pronounce words while wearing clear aligners. Lisping is normal at first. Constant practice can help the patient speak the right way. The adjustment can happen in one to two weeks. Practicing tongue movements can strengthen and loosen the tongue muscles. Studies show that in one week, about 93% of clear aligner wearers did not have difficulty speaking at all.
  • Knowing that there is temporary discomfort during the treatment can help make the process easier. Mild pain could last for about two to three days after the first insertion of the aligners. There may be some tenderness around the gums as the teeth move to their proper positions. A saltwater mouth rinse can soothe the sensitivity. Taking over-the-counter pain relievers can help with the discomfort.
  • Practicing chewing exercises can help the patient adjust to the aligners better. The aligners may not snap into position right away on the first placement. Knowing how to click the aligners in place can make the first days of alignment start the treatment on the right path.
